December Relief Society Newletter

When I was a child I thought I was the luckiest girl in the whole world because I was born in December, the month where
everything was decorated so beautifully and everyone seemed full of joy. Actually, I still love having a birthday in December.
To me it is the most wonderful time of the year. I have such treasured memories of wonderful holiday traditions with my
family, as I’m sure many of you do as well.
This month I have been reflecting back 19 years ago when my oldest son was born on December 19th. I remember feeling so
happy and blessed that I was given this beautiful boy and thought about Mary and how she must have felt this same way
when Jesus was born. We are blessed to celebrate his joyful birth throughout this month. As we go about our holiday celebrations,
let us try to honor our Savior, who gave us everything, by giving of ourselves to others. Christ spent his mortal life
serving others, so what better way to honor his birth than to follow his example?
Seek out a lonely neighbor or friend. Smile at the clerks in the store. Donate to an Angel Tree. Provide Christmas for a
family who may go without this year. Go caroling at our local nursing home. The joy you bring to others will be given back to
you ten-fold as you see someone’s heart being touched. We are all aware that there is much heartache and suffering in our
world right now, but let us follow in our Savior’s footsteps and do all we can to make our brothers and sisters’ world a little
brighter and lighten their load. May your family be filled with peace and love this Christmas season.

November Relief Society Newsletter

Dear Sisters,
As the seasons change and we hopefully pause more often to realize the many blessings we each enjoy from our Heavenly Father, we will have the desire to bless the lives of those around as we have been blessed. Elder José L. Alonso of the Seventy, said in his Conference talk in Oct, ―The prophets have declared that true happiness is found in following the example and teachings of Christ. He is our Savior, He is our teacher, and He is the perfect example.
His was a life of service. When we serve our neighbor, we help those who are in need. In the process we may find solutions to our own difficulties. As we emulate the Savior, we show our love to our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, and we become more like Them…
For many who have need of our help, it is not necessary to create new programs or take actions which are complicated or costly. They only need our determination to serve…We have a responsibility and a great opportunity. There are many who need to once again experience the sweet savor of happiness and joy through activity in the Church. That happiness comes from receiving the ordinances, making sacred covenants, and keeping them. The Lord needs us to help them. Let us do the right thing at the right time, without delay.‖*
I hope we can find ways to follow the example of the Savior and serve others as we lift someone’s spirit, teach correct principles, help in a physical way, or maybe just give someone a smile. Look for opportunities, they are around us each day.

October Presidency Message

When it comes to opening my mouth and talking to others about the gospel, I'm getting braver. I talked with a neighbor this week about his struggle to understand a few religious concepts, including the divinity of Jesus Christ. I was able to share with my neighbor that I believe that Jesus Christ is much more than a good man or prophet; Jesus Christ is the Son of God. President Heber J. Grant said, "There is nothing so dear to the human heart as the testimony of Jesus Christ." This conversation made me realize how grateful I am for my knowledge and testimony of the Savior. I think sometimes I take it for granted. I know that Jesus Christ was the perfect example for us to follow. His invitation to, "Come fol-low me," took on a new meaning for me this week as I shared my testimony with my neighbor. I wondered if my neighbors would know by my words and deeds that I am a follower of Jesus Christ. "To follow an individual means to watch him or listen to him closely; to accept his authority, to take him as a leader, and to obey him; to support and advocate his ideas; and to take him as a model. Each of us can accept this challenge. " (Howard W. Hunter, Oct. 1994 Liahona, He Invites Us to Follow Him) It is my hope that we can rise up and accept the challenge to "live with ever more attention to the life and example of the Lord Jesus Christ, emulating the love and hope and compassion he dis-played." September Presidency Message

Each month our Relief Society Activities Committee meets together to try and plan meaningful activities for all the sisters in our ward. This week while trying to brainstorm ideas, President Uchtdorf‟s talk in October 2008, “Happiness, Your Heritage,” was brought up and discussed as being inspiring to us. In that talk he talked about the work of creation, how “the desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul.”
“No matter our talents, education, backgrounds, or abilities, we each have an inherent wish to create something that did not exist before.
Everyone can create. You don‟t need money, position, or influence in order to create something of substance or beauty.
Creation brings deep satisfaction and fulfillment. We develop ourselves and others when we take unorganized matter into our hands and mold it into something of beauty.
You might say, „I‟m not the creative type. When I sing, I‟m always half a tone above or below the note. I cannot draw a line without a ruler. And the only practical use for my homemade bread is as a paperweight or as a doorstop.‟
If that is how you feel, think again, and remember that you are spirit daughters of the most creative Being in the universe. Isn't it remarkable to think that your very spirits are fashioned by an endlessly creative and eternally com-passionate God? Think about it—your spirit body is a masterpiece, created with a beauty, function, and capacity beyond imagination.”
We hope that each month our activities inspire you to try something new, learn a new skill, deepen friendships, help fill this desire to create, and remind us of our Father‟s love for us all. August Presidency message

“Trust in God and believe in good things to come”
The home page on our computer is LDS.org. I’ve noticed that there are some in-teresting looking messages that rotate each time I log in. I’ve avoided taking the time to watch any of them because I always feel rushed and besides watching them will only make me cry. Well, today I sat down to the computer, the house was very quiet, meaning everyone was really taking a nap all at the same time. I decide, tears or no tears, I was going to watch some of those little videos.
The one that touched me the most was by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland. He told how he and his little family, many years ago, started out on a trip from the southern part of Utah to the East coast where he would be attending school. The old car they were travel-ing in broke down and he had to walk for help, twice. Years later he drove past that very spot on the road and remembered the experience and all the emotion that went with it. Looking back to that time he wanted to tell that young man what life had taught him.
The things he would have said are timely for us in our lives. He said, “Don’t you quit. There is help and happiness ahead. Everyone has times when they need to know things will get better. Some blessings come soon, some blessings come late, and some blessings don’t come till heaven. Trust in God and believe in good things to come.” Our Heavenly Father loves us and wants us to succeed. Some times in life we too have “break downs” along the road. Remember these few words of Elder Holland’s and trust in God. Love, Olivia Anderson

July Presidency Message

Count your blessings name them one by one…Whenever I am feeling discouraged about my struggles I am facing, I remember the words to this hymn to remind myself that the Lord has given me so many blessings. Certainly, one of the greatest blessings we have all been given are the freedoms we enjoy from being citizens of this great country.
How blessed are we to be free to worship the Lord as we choose? To be able to live and work where we desire? To choose the occupations that interest us? To travel freely? To raise our families as we see fit?
This month we celebrate our nation’s independence. While we are all enjoying the wonderful summer weather, good food and fireworks, I hope we can remember the military men and women who sacrifice their time, their families and sometimes their lives in service to all of us who are blessed to be living in this great land. We owe them a debt of gratitude we can never re-pay.
Last year President Uchtdorf spoke at a fireside honoring our military members. He invited a family to speak whose son had been killed in Afghanistan. The father said he has been repeatedly asked by many people, “What can we do to help?” His answer was this, “Pray for the soldiers; remember them in your prayers. That's what you can do for us, and that will mean the most to us.” This month I hope we can all try to honor this father’s wish. Love, Trisha White

June Presidency Message

 Every spring I am amazed when the plants star growing and life returns to my garden. It bewilders me as fresh green shoots reach up into the sky, knowing that they began as teeny little seeds. Each year it seems like a miracle all over again. I've learned many lessons in my garden. The first time I planted carrots I remember thinking, "I can barely even see these puny little seeds. Can these possibly grow to be carrots?" but just like the primary song says, "Faith is like a little seed: if planted it will grow." (Children’s Songbook, 96–97) My carrots did grow and I learned a lesson in faith.
"Faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith, ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true." (Alma 32:21) There are lots of times in life when we can't see the end. We don't know how things will turn out or why we are faced with challenges or trials. Often in these times all we can do is have faith; faith to press on and faith to do our best in following His will…even when we're not sure of the why and how.
President Gordon B. Hinckley said in a conference talk: ―This is my prayer for all of us. … Increase our faith to bridge the chasms of uncertainty and doubt. … Grant us faith to look beyond the problems of the moment to the miracles of the future. … Give us faith to do what is right and let the consequences follow.‖ (―Lord, Increase Our Faith,‖ Ensign, Nov. 1987, 52–53)
This too is my prayer, that we will exercise faith in our gardens of life and grow to be the women God wants each of us to be. Love, Natalie Kahumoku

May Presidency Message

President Thomas S. Monson said at the close of the recent General Conference. "May we long remember the messages we have heard and as we receive the issues of the En-sign magazine which will contain these messages in written form, may we read and study them. We face challenges in the world today, but I assure you that our Heavenly Father is mindful of us. He loves each of us and will bless us as we seek Him through prayer and strive to keep His commandments… May we be good citizens of the nations in which we live and good neighbors in our communities, reaching out to those of other faiths as well as to those of our own… May we be examples of honesty and integrity wherever we go and in whatever we do."
We love the sister in our Ward Relief Society and pray that as we all study the messages given in this last General Conference we will be strengthened in our testimonies and our abilities to live the gospel in our lives. April Celebrates our Savior with Easter

Although Easter is a time for family traditions and fun, this holy day is the time we commemorate the most sacred religious event in the world’s history—the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Here are some ideas to help you focus your celebration of Easter on the Savior:

Commit yourself to read the scriptures every day during the month before Easter, particularly the accounts of the Savior’s ministry in Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and 3 Nephi.

 Prepare a family home evening lesson on the Atonement and give the lesson the week before Easter.

 Read conference addresses given by General Authorities on the life, Atonement, and Resurrection of the Sav-ior.

 During each day of the week before Easter, read about what Christ did that day. (See Matt. 21–28; Mark 11–16; Luke 19–24; John 11–21.)

 Do what Christ would do if he were here: spend time serving others.

 Make a list of the ways the Atonement affects your life. Put the list in your journal and review it often.

 Watch the sunrise on Easter morning. Think about the beauty of the earth and the sacrifices of its Creator.

 On Easter morning give each member of your family a small picture of the Savior. Write a note or your favorite scripture on the back.

 During the sacrament, make a concerted effort to worship the Savior and Heavenly Father.

 Share your testimony of the Savior and his Atonement with your family, your ward or branch, or a nonmember friend. Make sure your actions reflect what you know to be true.

 Memorize a scripture about the Savior’s Atonement.

Here are some suggestions: Luke 22:44; John 6:51; John 10:17; Rom. 6:9; 1 Pet. 2:21; 1 Ne. 11:33; 2 Ne. 2:7; Mosiah 26:23; Alma 11:42; Morm. 7:5

We want the sister in our Ward to know that we are thinking of them and want them to come to all activities that their health or calling will allow. That is part of the focus for this Pyramid Blog to keep you informed and to help make it a one stop shop.
